About the artist

My name is Hui (Fei). I am a painter and occasional printmaker based in Helper, Utah. I studied under John Erickson and David Dornan. I continue my art education with many artists I admire, such as Paul Davis, Kevin Chen, and Mike Hernandez.

I like to paint what is in front of me and make it look beautiful, grand, moody, or mysterious. Paul Davis once told me that painting is about light—I couldn't agree more. But sometimes, I also make satirical or funny paintings.

Recently, I realized that painting is a psychological game. A painter is a manipulator, a storyteller, a shaman, a spiritual guide, and—most importantly—a lover (of life, a person, or even a single flower).
